Meta tags are very important. They are inserted into html pages for search engine usage. They tell some search engine what your site is about to help it know when to display your page in a users search results. They also provide the description some search engines use in describing your site in a search return. If you need meta tags for your page, type in the information requested in the form below and your meta tags will be made up for you. Thanks to Boogie Jack for granting me permission to use this great form that he made up. Please visit his site and find tons of wonderful tips!

- Site Description -
Up to 120 characters.
- Keywords -
Separated by commas,
up to 1000 characters.

- Here are your Meta-tags. -
Put them in the HEAD of your HTML document.

Here's another cool tool to use for counting characters when you aren't to go beyond a certain limit. When you submit your site to search engines they usually limit various fields to X number of characters. You often don't know if you've exceeded that limitation until you try to submit it, then it tells you to go back. Using a pre-counted number of character you'll always know you're ok and won't have the hassles.

When building web pages you should limit the title to 59 characters or less to be compatible with all search engines. For metatags, your description should be 120 characters or less, and your keywords should be 762 characters or less. This will keep your all important title and metatags compatible with all the major search engines. Not everyone has a text editor or HTML editor that counts the number of characters for you, so I've gotten permission to put this character counter for you to use. It counts spaces as characters also, because the search engines do too.

  1. Type or paste your text into the text area.
  2. Hit the Count 'em! button.
  3. When you've reached nirvana, just copy that text into Notepad or something similar.
  4. Do this with each field you'll need, and start submitting.
A huge thanks again goes to Boogie Jack for the use of this handy tool!
